Wembley Stadium death: accused in court
Ian Mytton, a 41 year old man from Redditch, is currently being held responsible for the death of Michael Dye. Mytton appeared in court on Monday and faces manslaughter charges after Dye, aged 44, succumbed to head injuries sustained from an attack last Tuesday outside Gate C at Wembley Stadium, moments before the England versus Wales kick-off.
It has been thought that Mytton’s motive towards the Cardiff City fan was rooted in football rivalry, but police are currently unable to decide whether this is mere speculation or not. Six men were initially arrested in conjunction with the attack, and all were Wales supporters. Mytton will appear before Worcester Crown court on September 20th.
Michael ‘Mike’ Dye left behind three children and his new partner Nathalie. He was a keen footballer and had supported Cardiff City since childhood. A friend said of Dye: “He’d been in scrapes with rival fans in the past – if he was fronted up by anyone he would not take a step back.” Although initial reports suggested that Dye was treated for cardiac arrest at the scene, the actual cause of death was blunt trauma to the back of the head.
