Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information after a teenager was murdered in north London yesterday afternoon.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at approx 5.30pm to Ponders End Recreation Ground, High Street/South Street, Enfield. A boy had been found in the middle of the recreation ground, by a concrete wall. He had suffered a stab wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was named as Leroy James, 14, of Edmonton, N9. A post-mortem was held at Haringey mortuary today.

An incident room is opening under Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Goode of the Homicide and Serious Crimes Command.

DCI Goode said: “We urgently need to trace anyone who was in the park around that time on Wednesday afternoon, and who may have seen the incident in which Leroy was stabbed. At this early stage we retain an open mind on the circumstances of the assault, and do need the public’s assistance.”

At present anyone who can assist should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. More information on this case as we receive it.
