UPDATED: Latest reports from Radio 5 live indicate a building is ablaze and a bus has also been set alight.Twitter users claim that the police station itself is the burning building.

A large street riot has broken out in Tottenham after two police cars were set alight. Protestors gathered outside Tottenham police station earlier this evening to demonstrate against the fatal shooting of a man last Thursday by armed police.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the man, locally named as Mark Duggan, was armed and attemped to shoot a police officer first. Sky News reported that a crowd of 300 people are currently in the area.

Rumours from Twitter suggest that the riots have moved on from the police station to the entirety of Tottenham High Street. Twitter users are claiming that local businesses are being looted, including a hairdressing salon and a bookmaker’s.

At the time of writing police riot units, supported by helicopters, were moving in to regain control of the situation.
